Me and the missus are off to Santa Monica early tomorrow for a conference, WITHOUT KIDS!!!!! What I'm perhaps the most excited about is that we'll be staying right across the street from the famous McCabe's music shop. Hope I don't miss the conference! By the way, any sights we ought to see when we're down there? Besides a tour at Taylor Guitars, but they only give 'em weekdays ![]() So I'll be offline 'til Monday. See y'all when I get back. |

I'm back, and in one piece! Attended a conference for the rare bone disease I have. Until yesterday, I had never met anyone else who had it, and there was a room full of people with it. It was quite an experience, meeting such kindred souls. Michael, turns out we did just that from the beach near the pier, and it was really fine. Not much else you can do down there for free!! It was a great weekend. |

Soundss like powerful and defining moments for all those who attended Pat, must feel already a bit better to have people living with the same conditions you have. ![]() ![]() |
...the rare bone disease I have...there was a room full of people with it.
Hmmm...perhaps not so rare after all. Hope there's some help for you soon, my friend. |

Thanks, guys. It was a memorable gathering. I spent far too little time in McCabes. Got to plunk around on a couple of Collings and a Goodall. The Clapton 000-28 was nice, but nowhere near these. I was pleased that my kit guitar was at least equal to the Martin in sound, but nowhere near the Collings and Goodall. I also liked how the non-Martins looked like there was a lot of human effort put into them. Not absolutely perfect, but very well done indeed. It was an education. |

Hey Pat, enjoyed this thread. Didn't know you had health problems. Sounds like you took full advantage of your trip by guitarin' a bit. I'm a huge Collings fan. You didn't mention the model you played? I try to hit any major store in areas of travel. Two months ago it was just a Guitar Center in Little Rock. We played 'em all, but kept returning to one Taylor with Ovangkol a 414. It had "the sound". Captivating, full, sexy, and it was attractive, seductive, and intoxicating. Is that possible with a guitar? Glad you had a great time. |

Bruce, Sorry I didn't respond earlier, but we were camping in the Cascades the last week, on beautiful Icicle Creek. Saw a falcon swoop down a coupla times, grabbing fish for dinner. Anyway, we were so fried at McCabe's I don't recall the model numbers, but one was an all-mahogany 00-like size that had a sweet tone, the other I think was a C-10 Deluxe model, L-00 like, louder and more responsive. Both had wonderful lower ends. Yeah, the health issue has been with me all my life, but I get by. Managed to finish off 1000 sq ft. basement a few years ago (except sheetrock!). Actually was a car mechanic for a few years, but that got old real fast. Now, no more auto work, and the work on the house has crawled to a standstill to maximize guitar-building time. ![]() |
